 “ The only Garden in Europe dedicated to the Law”

Hywel Dda and the Law.

Hywel Dda was born towards the end of the ninth century.
In 928 AD he made a pilgrimage to Rome and by 942 AD
He ruled over most of the country and claimed the title  
“King of all Wales”. The Prologue to the early manuscripts
state that he then summoned representatives from each 
commote in his kingdom to an assembly at “The White
House on the Taf in Dyfed” for the purpose of codifying
the laws. This legal system became known for its wisdom
and justice and was in force in Wales until the Act of
Union with England in 1536.

Ganwyd Hywel Dda tua diwedd y nawfed ganrif. Yn 928OC
aeth ar bererindod i Rufain ac erbyn 942OC, rheolai dros y rhan fwyaf o’r wlad a hawlio’r teitl “Brenin Cymru Oll”. Dywed
Prolog y llawysgrifau cynnar iddo wedyn alw cynrychiolwyr
o bob cwmwd yn ei deyrnas i’r “Ty Gwyn ar Daf yn Nyfed”
er mwyn cyfundrefnu’r Cyfreithiau. Bu’r Gyfraith hon, a ddaeth yn enwog am ei doethineb a’i chyfiawnder, mewn grym yng Nghymru hyd y Ddeddf Uno gyda Lloegr yn 1536.
